Taylor and
Martinez together are several things: soulful,
blues-spirited music that rocks; the sensitive yet sassy
songwriting team behind its insightful lyrics; and a
self-titled debut album on the legendary Hi
Records. Individually they are
Charlotte Taylor and George Martinez from Heber Springs and
Searcy, Arkansas, respectively. Taylor is a real dynamo -- a
feminine force of personal power and freedom. Her sometimes
stinging yet playfully engaging lyrics reveal a strong
personality and independent point of view that are the essence
of the Taylor and Martinez
message. Martinez is simply
electrifying -- a guitar man of compelling energy and passion
who magnetizes attention. His untamed appetite for unique
blends and stylings stretch polished, tasteful tones into
aggressive assaults with dazzling craftsmanship. His haunting
riffs give Taylor and Martinez its infectious musical
signature. |

"We come from two different worlds. That's what
makes our music so interesting," Taylor confesses. "I
was born in small town America and still live there.
George was reared in East LA and is street smart and
savvy. But, it's difficult to live anywhere in the world
and not be affected by the blues. The blues has the
ability to unite people no matter what their
differences. |

"Blues music has
definitely influenced our writing," Taylor continues. "What we
like about blues music is that it says something. You don't
have to figure out what blues singers mean by what they sing.
When it's real, you know what it means. What I hope is that we
absorb the emotional honesty of the blues and release that in
what we write." "I've always liked blues-edged rock bands," admits
Martinez. "Sure we rock 'n' roll. A lot of great bluesmen did
that when their message called for it. I know I just have to
play what comes through me, and that's part of everything I've
grown to love." "The music
of Taylor and Martinez has a fresh approach," says
Adalah Bennett Shaw, owner of Hi Records, the label that
defined the soul sound of the Seventies and still mesmerizes
today's audiences. "Their sound is both mellow and
invigorating at the same time with danceable grooves and
hooks. Perhaps what is most rewarding for us is seeing people
of all ages enjoying the music. Acceptance makes all the hard
work worthwhile." |
